Six Month Smiles or ClearCorrect: Which Is Right for You?

Every smile is different, so determining the right orthodontic treatment is a highly personal choice. Fortunately, you have two great options at Dallas Street Dental: Six Month Smiles or ClearCorrect

Among the factors to take into consideration:

  • Your orthodontic issues
  • Your budget
  • Your feelings about making lifestyle changes

One of our dentists will examine you, discuss your smile challenges and goals, and help select the method that will work best for you. Dr. Buso completed extensive orthodontic treatment as a young woman, so she has an especially deep understanding of the factors to consider. Call us today at 479-668-3109 to schedule a consultation with Dr. Buso or Dr. Ligon.

In the meantime, go ahead and check out our overview of both options. It will give you some food for thought when choosing whether Six Month Smiles or ClearCorrect is right for you.

ClearCorrect Is Convenient But Requires Discipline

With ClearCorrect, you’ll wear a series of clear aligners – not braces – to straighten your smile. There are numerous advantages, with one of the biggest being the nearly invisible look of the aligners. Many folks probably won’t even notice them in your mouth.

In addition, they are:

  • Custom Made – Unlike braces, your aligners are made to address your unique orthodontic issues.
  • Comfortable – The lack of metal brackets and wires means more comfort. In addition, you won’t need any uncomfortable adjustments.
  • Faster Than Traditional Braces – Your orthodontic issues will determine your length of treatment, but most ClearCorrect patients complete treatment within a year.
  • Convenient – Since your aligners can be removed, you can take them out for eating meals and for cleaning teeth. Both of these activities are easier with no wires to get in your way.

The ability to take our your aligners is a huge convenience – but it’s also a potential problem. In order to keep your treatment on track, you’ll need to wear them a minimum of 20 hours a day. We recommend removing them only for meals and oral hygiene. In order not to stain or damage aligners, you also should consume only clear liquids when wearing them and avoid hot liquids like coffee.

If you think your lifestyle or a lack of self discipline will make it difficult to adhere to this advice, you might want to consider Six Month Smiles braces instead.

We know cost is also a consideration. Though the length of your treatment will affect the cost of ClearCorrect, in many cases it is quite similar to the cost of traditional braces.

Six Month Smiles Is a Speedy Treatment But Has Limitations

Six Month Smiles works like traditional braces, using brackets and wires to move teeth into place. The primary advantage is its speed. As the name makes clear, it’s possible to get results within six months. The fast results are possible because, unlike traditional braces, they focus on only the teeth that show when you smile. If your bite is misaligned or your back teeth need correction, Six Month Smiles is not the treatment for you.

Though they are a bit more noticeable than aligners, Six Month Smiles braces have clear brackets and tooth-colored wires. They blend into your smile more easily than traditional braces. Similar to traditional braces, you’ll need to be a bit more careful when eating and cleaning your teeth. However, it may be easier to keep your treatment on track without the ability to remove them.

Without examining you, we can’t give you a cost estimate. But treatment with Six Month Smiles braces often costs less than aligners, because the treatment time tends to be shorter.

In addition to Six Month Smiles braces, we also offer aligners from Six Month Smiles. They offer the same advantages as ClearCorrect.
